BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A prolonged period of extreme heat is on its way to the Pacific Northwest and it is set to linger until next weekend.

The National Weather Service in Seattle said that a heat advisory will go into effect for most of western Washington starting Tuesday, July 26th.

While temperatures will stick around the mid- to upper-80’s here in Whatcom County, areas south could reach well into the 90’s.

Temperatures will likely break daily records in Seattle and areas in the Southern Puget Sound.

An excessive heat watch has also been issued for central and eastern parts of the state.

People are being advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room and out of the sun, and to check up on relatives and neighbors.

For homes without air conditioning, authorities are warning that indoor heat will likely build throughout the week.

They’re also reminding folks that young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
