SEATTLE, Wash. — Emergency responders are making plans on how to get trauma patients to hospitals following the shutdown of Seattle’s Alaskan Way viaduct.

With traffic congestion expected to make it difficult for ambulances to get patients to hospitals fast, Airlift Northwest is gearing up to transport patients within the city.

It’s made a list of eight emergency landing spots on city parks and ball fields where helicopters can pick-up patients and get them to Harborview Medical Center in minutes.

KOMO reports that Airlift Northwest has 24-hour dispatchers at their Boeing Field offices who work throughout Washington State and beyond in coordinating pickups and drop-offs.
