BELLINGHAM, Wash. — After a long career, a faithful Bellingham Police K-9 got to retire last month.
Officer Chris Kaiser and Danek have been a K-9 team for eight years.
Lieutenant Claudia Murphy writes that during their career together they tracked and caught more than 200 suspects — including three wanted for homicide.
Danek uncovered lots of illegal street drugs such as cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and ecstasy, and found illicit weapons.
The team also saved the lives of 5 people who had wandered from assisted living facilities.
More recent highlights of Danek’s career include tracking a robbery and assault suspect on Lakeway, tracking a fleeing car theft suspect off Marine Drive, and bouncing back from a leg injury during a domestic violence takedown.
Danek has lived with Officer Kaiser during their career and now will retire to the comfort of being the Kaiser family dog.
