FEDERAL WAY, Wash. (AP) – A Senior at Decatur High School in Federal Way is detained and facing deportation after what was supposed to be a quick day-trip to Vancouver, BC.
Kevin Kim, his mother and his 13-year-old brother drove into Canada last weekend, but on the way home the family was detained at the border.
The border patrol says the family’s visa has expired, which the family disputes.
Martin Moore is a Federal Way City Councilmember helping the Kims.
“Their system is telling them that it’s expired and there’s issues. As I understand, they’re not really being clear with the family about what specifically those issues are. Which, again, I think is wrong.”
Kevin is just three weeks away from graduation, and was planning to go to a university in Boston that specializes in medicine.
