WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – A strong storm system has arrived in Whatcom County.

The National Weather Service says south winds with gusts from 40 to 50 miles per hour are expected on Wednesday, May 18th.

Heavy snowfall is also expected in the mountains, especially near Mount Baker and over local passes.

Lummi Island residents and visitors should be aware that passenger ferry service has been shutdown by the high winds.

Puget Sound Energy is reporting spotty power outages in western Whatcom and Skagit Counties.
