NORTH CASCADES, Wash. – A massive piece of dead wood fatally struck a hiker near Mount Baker.
WCSO spokesperson Deb Slater said that the 59-year-old woman from British Columbia was on an overnight hike with a friend on October 8th.
They were hiking on the Lake Ann Trail at about 10 a.m. when a dead part of a tree broke off and landed directly on top of the woman.
She was killed instantly.
Deputies, along with Bellingham Mountain Rescue, Glacier Fire, and Kendall Fire, were able to recover her body.
