BELLINGHAM, Wash. — An illegal homeless tent camp is persisting at Laurel Park in Bellingham Monday after a city-posted closure notice came and went Friday morning.

Campers tried to move Lincoln Creek Park and Ride Friday afternoon after city officials and volunteers observed and assisted them packing their belongings.

Mid-afternoon Friday, moving trucks of belongings were seen at the site, along with WWU Police.

One tent had been erected by 2pm.

WWU’s Paul Cocke told the Bellingham Herald the campers were asked to leave the parking lot and it was eventually vacated.

Early this morning, roughly a dozen tents were still at Laurel Park near WWU.

This after 4 so-called “black bloc” protesters were seen at the site early Saturday morning placing pallets around the park perimeter, many of which were still there this morning.

The City’s web page addressing tent encampments had no updates on the situation as of 4 this morning.
