LUMMI ISLAND, Wash. — Whatcom County Sheriff’s Deputies evacuated a number of homes and blocked off roads after a woman crashed her car into a household propane tank on Lummi Island early Monday.
Sheriff Bill Elfo says 28-year-old Thea Bell Cabreros of Lummi Island was driving on Nugent Road south of the ferry dock at about 4 A.M. when she lost control and left the roadway.
Her car hit the tank and ended up on top of it.
Propane was leaking from the tank and nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution.
Cabreros was charged with DUI and booked into jail.
