BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Rescuers were able to save at least 78 animals from Monday morning’s fire at Hohl Feed & Seed and most of them are being cared for at the Whatcom Humane Society.
Executive Director of the Humane Society Laura Clark reports they took in quite a variety of animals, including rabbits, gerbils, domestic rats, mice, hamsters, and a tarantula.
Clark says they don’t yet know exactly how many animals did not survive the fire.
“The managers of Hohl Feed did come by the shelter to inventory, and it was a very sad and tragic situation to watch them realize which animals were there and which animals weren’t there,” she says.
The Humane Society has supplies to care for the surviving animals but invites anyone who wants to help to make a donation, which can be done by visiting this webpage.
