FERNDALE, Wash. – Hundreds watched Monday’s eclipse in Ferndale.

NASA Astronaut Wendy Lawrence was on hand to answer questions.

“Very smart people long ago laid the foundation for all of this. Kepler is one, in particular, because his laws, what he observed centuries ago is the foundation for the equations we use in orbital mechanics that allow us to figure out where the planets are going to be.”

Former NASA scientist Cathy Watson was also there.

“I’m so amazed that we see all of these people here to share this event as a community.”

About 1,600 people showed up to Pioneer Park for the viewing event.
