MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — A Mount Vernon man is dead after he was hit by a car while walking in the northbound lanes of I-5 east of Stanwood late New Year’s Eve.
The State Patrol says Alejandro Lopez-Gallardo was declared dead at the scene after a 66-year-old Mount Vernon woman hit him in the center lane of I-5.
She was taken to the hospital for unspecified injuries.
Troopers don’t believe drugs or alcohol were involved and the woman isn’t facing any charges.
This was the second day in a row a pedestrian was hit and killed in this area of the freeway.
