OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Gov. Jay Inslee has announced additional emergency funding to support civil legal aid services for immigrant families.
The decision comes amid the uproar over the U.S. Department of Justice’s new “zero tolerance” immigration crackdown, in which children have been taken from their parents.
In addition to a $1 million grant that was approved by the state legislature earlier this year, Inslee has authorized $230,000 in emergency funding to bolster the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project.
In 2016, the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project received over $2 million in government grants and contracts. They have dozens of attorneys on staff, with locations in Granger, Seattle, Tacoma, and Wenatchee.
