WHIDBEY ISLAND, Wash. — A search and rescue team from Naval Air Station Whidbey Island rescued an injured climber in the North Cascades.

The 39-year-old climber suffered a possible pelvis fracture and loss of consciousness Friday after he reportedly fell at an elevation of 6,500 feet near Washington Pass, located west of Winthrop.

Naval Air Station Whidbey Island says their search and rescue crew located the climber from their helicopter and two crew members rappelled down.

While the helicopter returned to Whidbey to refuel, the crew members climbed to the patient, prepped him for transport, and moved him to a better pick-up point.

He was taken to Harborview Medical Center.
