POINT ROBERTS, Wash. – Help is on the way for the only grocery store on Point Roberts and the residents who rely on it.

Governor Jay Inslee has announced that the state will give the store a $100,000 cash infusion from its strategic reserves to keep the International Market open.

Owner Ali Hayton said the latest extension of the border closure was the last straw.

“I just kind of hit a wall,” said Hayton. “It’s the first time I was actually super defeated in this whole time.”

She had planned to close the store and lay off her 10 employees on July 15th.

But she tells KING 5 that she’s grateful for the help from the state and hopes the governor’s advocacy will “spur change” in Washington DC and Ottawa.
