OLYMPIA, Wash. – Governor Jay Inslee has joined the chorus of voices calling for border restrictions to be relaxed, at least for people who are vaccinated.

“I’m disappointed that the federal governments haven’t been able to agree to open this border,” says Inslee. “I’ve been grievously disappointed.

He says he feels for residents of Point Roberts in Whatcom County where the fire chief says they’re seeing a humanitarian crisis.

“People in Point Roberts should recognize that I’ve been worried about them and been doing everything I possible can to solve their problem for months now,” says Inslee.

But he says he’s powerless.

“For it to be open for U.S. citizens, it takes both the United States government and the Canadian federal government to open this border,” says Inslee. “So the Premier of BC can’t solve this problem and I can’t solve this problem.”

The owner of the exclave’s only grocery store says she’ll be forced to close within weeks if the border isn’t opened.
