Washington Governor Jay Inslee has declared a state of emergency after a man died of COVID-19 in the state.

The death marked the first coronavirus death nationwide.

Inslee directed state agencies to use all resources necessary to prepare for and respond to the outbreak.

The declaration also allows use of the Washington National Guard, if necessary.

At a news conference Saturday, King County health officials reported three more infections among residents there.

Among the two new cases reported Friday night, KIRO-TV reports one is a student at Jackson High School in Mill Creek, who had visited Seattle Children’s North Clinic on Monday.

Health officials are trying to track down his contacts due to concern the teen acquired the virus in the community.

The Everett Schools superintendent has closed Jackson High School Monday through Wednesday for a clean-down.
