OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) – A bill that lets school districts build outside of areas where growth is allowed gets a partial veto from Governor Inslee.

Inslee wants to force school districts to evaluate several factors before expanding.

“An evaluation of the availability of suitable land, the total costs of land acquisition, school construction and utility services, and the environmental impacts on different parcels,” Inslee said.

The district, county and affected cities must agree there are no other feasible options in the urban growth area, he said.

Inslee says he’s confident his office and legislators can come up with a plan during the special session.

Inslee did make an exception for districts in Pierce County, which he says would affect just one school.
