OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Governor Inslee has bowed out of the race for the Democratic Presidential nomination.

Inslee, who ran on a platform of combating climate change, announced his departure Wednesday Night with Rachel Maddow on MSNBC and says he’s confident the Democrats still in the race will carry on his climate change torch.

AP reports Inslee is expected to announce Thursday he’s running for a third term as governor.

Attorney General Bob Ferguson, Commissioner of Public Lands Hilary Franz and King County Executive Dow Constantine had considered running for governor if Inslee decided not to.

Republican State Senator Phil Fortunato and a police chief in Republic are among the Republican candidates running for governor.

Inslee is the third Democrat to pull out of the presidential race, following US Representative Eric Swalwell of California and former Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper.
