OLYMPIA, Wash (AP) – Governor Inslee issued a new memo to ban non-essential state-funded travel to North Carolina.
He says North Carolina’s repeal of its so-called “bathroom bill” is still allowing discrimination against gay, lesbian and transgender people.
And North Carolina’s Governor, Ray Cooper, agrees.
“With a good general assembly, we would have repealed House Bill 2 fully, and added full state-wide protections for LGBT North Carolinians. Unfortunately, our super majority Republican legislature will not pass these protections.”
Inslee says North Carolina’s replacement legislation continues to ban nondiscriminatory ordinances passed by local governments.
It also says that sexual orientation and identity are not protected classes.
