SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Governor Jay Inslee gathered with his Oregon and California counterparts and the premier of British Columbia to sign a West Coast climate pact today (Thursday).
The San Jose Mercury News reports the document they signed in San Francisco is a “statement of cooperation” with no real enforcement powers.
Some of the goals in the agreement are expanding electric vehicle charging stations, extending zero emissions rules for trucks, electrifying ports so big ships can plug in for power while docked, reducing wilfires, and working to bring efficiencies to low income communities.
The director of the Climate Program at the UC Berkeley School of Law was on hand for the signing.
He said that the agreement’s only enforcement provision is “public pressure,” but it gives the public a way to measure action on climate initiatives.
