OLYMPIA, WASH. – In Olympia, an effort to give people more control over their internet privacy heads for a vote on the House floor.

The measure would stop internet service providers like Comcast and Century Link from tracking and selling information about browsing habits

Republican Matt Manweller, a member of the House Technology and Economic Development Committee, says even if that stops, what will keep the websites people visit from selling their information?

“It doesn’t do any good to lock your backdoor if you leave your front door wide open,” he says.

Several states are looking to cover the gap in protection after the Trump administration allowed providers to sell the information.

Many providers oppose the state efforts.
