BLAINE, Wash. — Experts are concerned about an invasive crab species that was found in Drayton Harbor.
According to The Northern Light, the shell of an invasive European green crab was found along the beach east of the harbor between Dakota and California creeks.
The green crab could threaten Dungeness crab, oyster and clam fisheries in the Pacific Northwest because the crab feeds on many organisms, including native crabs and shellfish.
The Department of Fish and Wildlife plans to set traps in any suitable habitat in the area surrounding Drayton Harbor.
