Bellingham, WASH. — The jail sentence for a former Bellingham police officer who was convicted of abuse has been reduced.

Fomer Cpl Brooks Owen Laughlin was convicted of multiple crimes relating to a years-long pattern of abusing a woman.

His original sentence was reduced by a little over a year and a half.

He was resentenced to 6.5 years in prison with three years probation this week in Whatcom County Superior Court.

Court documents say Laughlin was required to be resentenced after a Washington State Court of Appeals overturned Laughlin’s convictions for one count each of felony stalking and misdemeanor harassment in December.
