OLYMPIA, Wash. — Washington’s economy continued to add jobs last month but the unemployment rate rose slightly.

The state’s economy gained 13,500 jobs in April while the unemployment rate was up just a bit to 4.7%.

The Employment Security Department attributes the bump in the jobless rate to growth in the workforce and more people looking for work.

Almost all private sectors added jobs, but construction, mining, and logging saw job losses.

More than 83,000 jobs were added in Washington over the past year.
