SEATTLE, WASH. – The Mexican man detained by immigration authorities despite a program protecting kids brought to the U.S. illegally is released.
A judge freed Daniel Ramirez Medina Wednesday until his next court hearing.
His lawyer, Louis Cortes, spoke after Ramirez’s release.
“We’re very happy that Daniel was released today. Obviously, it’s a very emotional day. We will provide a more full statement when we’ve had time to decompress. He’s been here 46, almost 47, days,” Cortes says.
Immigration agents arrested the 24-year-old in February.
He has no criminal record and twice passed background checks to participate in the “Dreamers” program.
In a statement, Ramirez says he’s happy and thankful for the support he’s received from everyone who helped him and for the opportunity to live in “such an amazing country.”
