With over seven years of service in public safety with the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office, K9 Elliot has retired.

Elliot and his handler, WCSO Deputy Taddonio had over 650 deployments and assisted in over 250 arrests. They worked together throughout Whatcom County, through rivers and lakes, and under houses. Elliot was always ready for a challenge and even assisted in arrests in Skagit and Snohomish counties.

“There is a quote that rings true. ‘Everyone knows what evil looks like but few have had evil look back at them.’ We have had evil look back at us,” stated Deputy Taddonio in a letter to Elliot. “I am forever thankful that you were willing to be by my side and stare back at it with me. You have dedicated over seven and a half years of being my partner and I’m grateful we had each other…(Yours) is a well-earned retirement and it’s your time to relax. We hopefully have many more years together but all you will need to chase now are your toys.” Taddonio signed the letter, “Your partner, your person, your dad…”

Elliot will be enjoying his retirement at the Taddonio household and K9 Luca will be stepping in. Luca is a 1 ½ year old German shepherd puppy who loves to play and understand the seriousness of his job. Deputy Taddonio and Luca have completed over 400 hours of state-mandated police dog generalist training and earned their certification as a narcotics detection team.
