KALAMA, Wash. (AP) – A $2 billion project that would convert natural gas to methanol in southwest Washington now has two key permits.
The state approved a shoreline permit a water-quality certification.
The Port of Kalama plant would ship the methanol to China to make plastics and other consumer goods.
Environmental groups oppose the project, saying it would release up to a million tons of greenhouse gases each year.
