KIRKLAND, Wash. – A high-tech mouth guard could be the key to preventing concussions in high school football games.
KING-5 reports Athlete Intelligence in Kirkland has developed a mouth guard that detects hard hits, then maps and measures them, and instantly relays the information to coaches and medical staff on their smartphones.
“With that information, armed and empowered with that, you can do your utmost to keep those players safe,” President and CEO Jesse Harper said.
Harper said they’ve got more than 10,000 athletes using the technology and one high school using them as well, with more schools showing interest.
The mouthguards would cost about $99 per high school athlete.
