OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) – The Legislature’s failure to pass a capital budget means the state Department of Natural Resources is short of money to deal with unhealthy forests.
$15 million in the capital spending plan would be used to remove trees hit by insect blight, disease or drought.
The D.N.R. says nearly three million acres of state forests need thinning.
The agency says that is a big reason why they state is seeing more destructive
wildfires.
