BELLEVUE, Wash. — The largest wind project in Western Washington is fully operational.

Puget Sound Energy announced customers in its Green Direct program are now receiving renewable energy from Skookumchuck Wind Facility, located on Weyerhaeuser timber land in Lewis and Thurston Counties.

The project, owned by Southern Power, will produce enough renewable energy to power the equivalent of nearly 30,000 Washington homes.

The Green Direct program is an initiative designed to provide PSE corporate and governmental customers the ability to purchase 100 percent of their energy from a renewable energy source.

Western Washington University, the City of Bellingham and Whatcom County all participate in the program.
