BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Four Whatcom County beaches made it onto the Department of Ecology’s draft list of areas at risk for bacterial contamination.
Ecology monitors high-use, high-risk swimming beaches throughout the state, sampling for bacteria May 20 through Labor Day and showing which beaches are closed on their website.
The agency released a list of at-risk beaches that they propose to monitor in 2019 and they’re asking the public to weigh in by commenting online.
The list includes beaches at Birch Bay, Larrabee State Park, Little Squalicum Park and Marine Park in Fairhaven.
