OLYMPIA, WASH (AP) – Democrats in Olympia want to stop tuition increases at colleges and universities, while Republicans want them to go up.
GOP leaders say tuition has finally stabilized after years of double-digit hikes under Democrats.
They propose increases of about 2 percent a year.
The News Tribune reports Democrats want to keep tuition costs where they are for the next two years.
At the same time, they hope to spend nearly $73 million to extend state financial aid to 6,000 additional students.
