FERNDALE, Wash. — Lawmakers are calling on Alcoa to negotiate with workers to save jobs at their Intalco facility.

Alcoa announced it would cease operations at the Ferndale facility, laying off about 700 workers.

Reps Suzan DelBene and Rick Larson, along with Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell, sent a letter to Alcoa President and CEO Roy Harvey urging the company to work with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers to find a solution.

The lawmakers also sent a letter to President Trump earlier this month, highlighting how the administration’s trade policies have negatively impacted U.S. companies and contributed to domestic manufacturing facility shutdowns.
