OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) – The Legislature averted a government shutdown last week by passing an operating budget, but the $4 billion construction budget and the jobs that go with it still hang in the balance.
Senate Republicans say they won’t pass the capital budget without legislation aimed at overturning a recent state Supreme Court ruling out of Whatcom County known as the Hirst decision.
It limits the use of new wells in certain rural areas.
Lawmakers proposed various bills in response to the Hirst decision, but there’s little agreement.
