SEATTLE, Wash. — A civil suit alleging Seattle City Council members broke the law is advancing this week.

The Seattle Times reports a judge will consider whether polling data and other communications related to the now-defunct head tax should be made public or not.

Two men have sued the city for allegedly violating the Open Public Meetings Act in the lead up to the Council’s repeal of the controversial tax.

The men’s lawyers have filed a motion to hold the city in contempt for, in their words, knowingly continuing a pattern of discovery evasiveness.

Attorneys for the city say the records should not be disclosed because they reflect details of “personal political activity and other private matters”.
