BLAINE, Wash. — A union representing Blaine school district employees says layoffs are looming.
The Northern Light reports a letter from SEIU local 925 to its members detailed cuts including bus drivers; nutrition service positions except four cooks, and associate positions that won’t support students during remote learning.
Sue Schroeder is the local’s vice president and she reportedly said two-thirds of the service employee union’s approximate 150 members will lose their jobs.
The paper reports that Blaine school district superintendent Christopher Granger and the district began conversations with the union as soon as it became clear layoffs were likely.
