BELLEVUE, Wash. — A Bellevue foreclosure services company reached a $750,000 settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice Thursday after accusations they illegally foreclosed on multiple military servicemembers’ homes.

It is illegal to foreclose on a servicemember’s home while they are on active duty and for one year thereafter without a court order, which the department says Northwest Trustee Services did not get.

The DOJ began investigating in 2016 when a Vancouver marine’s home was foreclosed on.

Northwest closed last December and is being liquidated to cover the settlement which will go to the servicemembers.
