BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Seventy-nine residents of the Leopold in Bellingham will be looking for a new place to live in the New Year.

In a media release, Executive Director Peter Frazier says the retirement residence will shut down on March 31 of next year.

The Leopold is hiring a housing specialist to offer residents relocation assistance, and a human resources specialist to help the employees find new jobs.

Frazier cited rising costs and declining occupancy as reasons for the closure.

The Leopold Retirement Residence was built in 1929 as a hotel and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
