OLYMPIA, Wash. — Thirty-five construction workers were killed in falls while on the job over the past four years in Washington and the Department of Labor and Industries is urging construction companies to “Stand-Down” for safety this week.
A safety stand-down is a break from normal work activities to focus on safe ladder use, full body harness inspections and other workplace safety issues.
An L&I spokesperson says a stand-down is an opportunity for workers and employers to share workplace safety information and to show workers that their safety is a priority.
The department has various tools and resources on its Safety-Stand Down webpage.
