BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The Bellingham Public Library will help provide extra women’s shelter during the coldest days this winter.

Mayor Kelli Linville announced the partnership between city government, the library, the Lighthouse Mission and Fountain Community Church to offer an emergency day shelter with space for up to fifty women.

The plan comes in response to staff at the Lighthouse Mission predicting their drop-in center won’t be able to handle the influx of people needing shelter.

Mayor Linville says if the library gets too full she would make a space in City Hall available.

This is one of several efforts city government is making to address homelessness this winter.
