OLYMPIA, Wash. — A local state senator joined with fellow lawmakers Wednesday in proposing a 1-billion-dollar property tax cut for taxpayers who will see a spike this year.
Republican Senator Doug Ericksen of Ferndale outlined his plan in a news conference that would cut property taxes across the state immediately.
The new school-financing system approved by the legislature last year would use a flat-rate state levy to replace school levies and reduce many residents’ property taxes.
But, until it’s fully implemented in 2019, many property owners are seeing a large spike in property taxes this year.
Ericksen says the state received more money than anticipated and can offset the spike this year.
