WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – A group that has helped many of those affected by last November’s floods has a new name but the same mission.
Ashley Butenschoen is vice president of the Whatcom Long Term Recovery Group, which was formerly known as WhatcomStrong.
She says they’ve assembled a team of qualified case managers.
“They’re getting with every person who’s been impacted,” said Butenschoen. “They are getting their information. We are doing an intake process then we’re going to prioritize people’s needs until we get to every single person and find out what they need and try to get them help as soon as possible.”
They’re working in coordination with the sheriff’s department Division of Emergency Management to coordinate assistance that’s still available.
She says people are still struggling.
“I can’t stress enough that the need is very, very great,” said Butenschoen. “Don’t forget about your neighbors. Don’t forget about what they’re going through.”
Anyone who needs assistance, can offer goods or services, or make a financial donation can find all the details at whatcomstrong.com.
