FERNDALE, Wash. — Ferndale could be home to Whatcom County’s first Himalayan salt cave.

Local health facility Flow Motion has raised more than $30,000 towards the construction and owner Alyssa Springs hopes the community can push their Kickstarter funding to $49,000 before the funding period ends on Saturday.

Springs says Himalayan salt caves are man-made rooms built floor-to-ceiling with salt boulders and bricks.

They have historically been used to help people breathe easier with negatively charged ionized air.

The closest salt caves are in Bellevue and Vancouver, BC.

Springs hopes the salt cave will attract visitors to Ferndale and boost local business.
