MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — A longtime Skagit County educator, legislator and coach died Thursday.

Dave Quall of Mount Vernon served in the state House of Representatives for 18 years, chairing the education committee for four years during the era of Governor Gary Locke.

The Skagit Valley Herald reports Quall also spent 38 years as a teacher, coach and counselor at Mount Vernon High School, where he led the men’s basketball team to two conference titles.

Diagnosed with Parkinson’s later in life, Quall’s students respected him as an honest and caring person.

Dave Quall was 84.
