OLYMPIA, Wash. — Consumers looking for health insurance are urged to be on the lookout for look-alike websites and misleading ads.
The Washington Health Benefit Exchange has received complaints about websites posing as the state’s official marketplace, WAHealthPlanFinder.org.
The Exchange has also received complaints of ads and websites claiming to give consumers special access to plans on the official marketplace.
Some websites are tricking people to collect person information while others provide services, but charge for things that should be free.
Still others are lead generators where personal information is sold to the highest bidder.
Those who wish to report an ad or website posing as the official site should file a complaint with the state Attorney General’s Office.
