BELLINGHAM, Wash. — One of the Marines lost and presumed dead in the sinking of a landing craft off the California coast is originally from Bellingham.

21-year-old Jack Ostrovsky posted on his public Facebook page that he grew up in Bellingham and graduated from Sehome High School.

He moved to Bend, Oregon in 2018 where he studied at Central Oregon Community College.

The Marine Corps says he joined in 2019 and was assigned to a Marine Expeditionary Unit based at Camp Pendleton, California.

Pfc. Ostrovsky was among 16 people aboard the assault craft when it sank during a training exercise last Thursday.

Eight Marines were recued but one of them died and two remain hospitalized.
