LUMMI NATION, Wash. – The Lummi Indian Business Council has begun proceedings to recall one of its members for what it calls gross misconduct and neglect of duty.

The council says in a release that Kathy Pierre mismanaged programs while serving as the council’s treasurer and was removed from the position in October.

A subsequent investigation by an outside firm found she had mismanaged and personally profited from financial assistance programs.

The council says her actions were a direct violation of the Lummi Constitution.

A two-thirds majority of the council is required to recall Pierre and members will hold a vote within 30 days.
