LUMMI NATION, Wash. – Lummi Nation is among three Washington Tribal Nations receiving a total of $1.2 million in federal funds to upgrade old, polluting diesel engines.
The EPA grant includes almost $350,000 to replace four diesel marine engines in the Lummi fishing fleet.
The engines are more than 20 years old and operate about 1,000 hours per year near Bellingham and Ferndale.
Marine and generator diesels are also being replaced for the Swinomish Tribal Community and the Quinault Nation.
