SEATTLE, Wash. – A Lummi Nation man has been sentenced for illegally poaching salmon and selling it for his own profit.

U.S. Attorney Nick Brown said that Scott Kinley, the owner of Native American Fisheries, will be on probation for the next three years, and must pay over $143,000 towards salmon restoration programs.

Kinley was convicted of stealing over 7,000 pounds of endangered Chinook salmon from a Yakama Nation fishery.

The fishery only allows enrolled Yakama Nation members to fish for ceremonial and subsistence purposes.

Kinley lied to fishery officers when questioned about his intentions and used his position as a wholesale retailer to sell the endangered salmon for lower prices.
