BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The Lummi Nation has pulled out of a COVID-19 vaccine trial.

Native News Online reports that Lummi doctors say communication problems with pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca prompted the move.

The British company has put its vaccine trial on hold to assess adverse medical reactions in some volunteers.

Lummi Indian Business Council President Lawrence Solomon said in a news release that the tribe isn’t ruling out participation in another trial, but this wasn’t a good fit.

Lummi Nation was one of just three tribes that had agreed to take part in a vaccine trial.
